3. Estimates depend entirely on inputs and assumptions

Every figure produced by a calculator on this site is generated from the information you enter and from a set of stated assumptions. Change an input or an assumption and the result changes, sometimes dramatically.

Results may differ materially from actual outcomes for reasons including, but not limited to:

• Changes in interest rates, investment returns, inflation or asset prices
• Changes in tax law, tax rates, thresholds, deductions, credits or filing rules
• Fees, commissions, spreads, penalties and charges not modelled by a particular calculator
• State and local taxes, which no calculator on this site models
• Individual circumstances, eligibility rules and provisions specific to your situation
• Lender, servicer, plan administrator or institutional policies that differ from the general rules modelled
• Simplifications, rounding and modelling choices that are described on each calculator's page

4. Projections are not predictions

Calculators that project forward — investment growth, time to a savings milestone, rent versus buy, college costs — apply a constant assumed rate over the whole period. Real markets, real inflation and real income do not behave that way. The order in which returns arrive materially changes outcomes, and that variability is not modelled.

Nothing on this site is a promise, guarantee, warranty or assurance that any particular financial outcome will be achieved. Past performance of any asset, market or strategy is not a reliable indicator of future results.

5. Tax information

Tax figures used by this site are drawn from published tax authority sources for the tax year identified on each calculator. Tax law changes, published figures are adjusted annually, and provisions expire. While we take care to keep this data current and to record the year and source of every figure, we do not warrant that any tax figure is current, complete or correct at the time you use it.

Tax calculators on this site model federal rules only, apply simplifications that are described in their results, and do not model tax credits, the alternative minimum tax, state or local income taxes, or provisions specific to your circumstances. They are not a substitute for tax preparation software or a qualified tax professional, and they must not be used to prepare or support a tax return.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SmartFinClub, its owner, contributors and suppliers accept no liability for any loss or damage of any kind — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary loss, loss of profit, loss of savings or loss of opportunity — arising from or in connection with your use of, or reliance on, this website, its calculators, its content, or any report generated by it.
